In order to tackle climate change by 2040, Demark has called for an EU-wide ban on diesel and petrol cars.

This proposal is backed by 10 other EU countries, which was made during a meeting of EU environment ministers in Luxembourg in a bid to pressure the European Commission to remove the polluting vehicles. The commission has plans for zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The manufacture of electric vehicles is set to triple in Europe, with 214 electric car models expected by 2021, up from 60 at the end of 2018.
